what will god do with a crime scene?
Sorry for the click-baity title. I’ve said before, I watch a lot of YouTube videos. I’m somewhat of a connoisseur of the DIY home reno variety. THIS GUY is one of my favorites, he is super humble and honest, witty, and it’s fun to watch his work come together.
Of course the algorithm will make suggestions in the queue for you to happen upon, and I got sucked into one from a guy who cuts grass. Title: “The cops forced me to leave after I stumbled on a crime scene during free overgrown lawn mowing.” Go ahead and watch, skim, or just search google for a few articles on this lawn juggernaut guy if you’re curious about this video, I’m not doing a review here, rather an inspection on something I found interesting.
Out of the gate let me say that I haven’t watched a ton of this guy’s stuff, nor did I even watch the full hour's worth of content on any of the few videos I did click on from him so I can’t necessarily give a robust judge of his character, however I did hear a few lines that lead me to believe he is a great dude. He cuts people lawns for free. He drives around, sees a lawn that is overgrown, pulls over and drags his equipment out and sets the home owners up with a “grass is greener” sort of vibe with his own donated time and expenses. Some call that type of person a Good Samaritan.
I heard him say two things that stuck out: 1. “You know, everyone is going through something. Everyone needs some help here and there. I guess I just get drawn to these lawns because its something I can provide for these people who just may not have the time or ability to do for themselves what I can (my paraphrase),” and 2. “I just follow God’s leading. I love cutting lawns. I see something I can do, and I just do it (still my paraphrase).”
All of this coalescing into this one video that got me originally curious, he cut this overgrown lawn and turns out it was a murder scene (speculation). He smelled somethin’ nasty from the open windows in the backyard and ended up calling the police for a wellness check, and sure enough they kicked him out because they deemed it a crime.
Here’s what’s fascinating to me - this guy makes videos about cutting lawns and puts them on YouTube. Not necessarily the description of something I would choose to watch over the abundance of content spilling out from that app, but he’s been faithful to the process, and more importantly the call from God to do so. 3 weeks ago (from the writing of this post) is when he released that video, and he went viral. Before that, I’m not sure, but when he clicked publish on this one, the guy blew up. With ad revenue and the overall exposure from the 5MIL+ views, I’m sure his wealth in revenue both on the platform and with new work coming his way he’s found some type of success.
Deeper than that, I thought of my own journey. Going back to the premise - he cuts grass and puts the videos up on YouTube. Hour long videos of a yard transformation. Not sure a lot of folks are looking for that type of content, yet he couldn’t care less. He heard the call, he did the work, and he went viral after he busted on a crime scene. To me, if I was making yard cutting videos, I would hope that Home Depot or someone would see it and want to sponsor me, then somehow I’d get an HGTV show or something and THAT would be MY recipe for success. But this guy walked in on a murder because he wanted to cut someone’s grass for free, and now he’s huge. I didn’t see that coming.
You literally never know how anything is going to happen.
NEVER. You can’t. And you can’t make it happen, hard as you might try. The ONLY thing you can do is be faithful to your call and let the Lord guide your steps to “success.”
For everyone who is looking to win at the thing you’re doing, the message is clear: keep doing the work you’re called to no matter what you feel like the return might be. It’s the call that is important, your faith to it that matters, not what comes on the other side because you have absolutely no idea. The grass is greener on that side of the fence for sure, and you won’t be able to get there on your own effort, the process is your home and garden to tend. Do that.
